1982 World Cup In Spain

In 1976, Spain was chosen to host the 1982 World Cup. This edition of the World Cup presented for the first time 24 teams. Expectations were high for Spain as the host country, under the direction of José Santamaria. In the group stage, Spain was in Group 5, which could only draw 1-1 against Honduras in the first game of the final, "after which had a 2 -1 victory in the case of Yugoslavia, but were defeated by 1-0 to Northern Ireland. These results were enough to ensure progress to the second round were drawn into Group B, but the defeat of West Germany and a goalless draw with England meant that Spain was eliminated, Santamaria and was fired.
