Spanish Football Spanish Boss Wants To Play The Copa America

President of the Spanish Football Federation, Angel Maria Villar risk of conflict with the country clubs, after announcing Tuesday that he wants the Spanish national team to participate in the Copa America this summer.

The world champions have been invited to participate in the contest to be held between May 1 and July 24 in Argentina.

"We received a proposal to play in the Copa America," confirmed Villar on a visit to Catalonia. Invitation last minute in Spain came in the wake of Japan, who had been invited, withdrawal because of the earthquake that devastated the country in March.

Spain has close ties with Latin America because of the colonial past and common language, shared with countries like Argentina, Uruguay, Peru and Chile, among others.

"We have been invited on several occasions in the past and is something that Spanish football is in South America," said Villar.

"I am in favor of Spain for the tournament, is something that we have to look with affection, because the huge number of large South American players, who were in Spain. I consider it a great honor to be invited, and I will take the proposal to the leaders' he insisted.

Villar may be in favor of making the Spanish in South America, but the proposal met with opposition from Spanish clubs, dealing with key players run the risk of collapse.
